Denied Again – My Fight for Disability Justice
In April, the Social Security Administration (SSA) cancelled my benefits, leaving me to fight tooth and nail for their restoration ever since. This journey has been anything but easy, culminating in my third attempt to request a reasonable accommodation at my local SSA office.
Before that third appointment, I reached out to Senator Tammy Duckworth's office for help. On the Friday prior, I emailed, detailing my situation and my concerns. Little did I know that their prompt response would bring about a pivotal moment.
On the day of my appointment, I once again faced the same outcome as before. My request for assistance was denied, and I was turned away. As I walked out of the building, feeling the weight of yet another rejection, my phone rang. It was Senator Duckworth’s office, asking how my appointment went.
When I explained the denial of a reasonable accommodation, they acted immediately, initiating a congressional inquiry into the SSA
